"Ugh," Clara groaned, tossing the shimmering, gold-embossed invitation onto the counter. The kitchen, usually her sanctuary, felt like a pressure cooker. Dishes piled in the sink, breakfast crumbs still littered the table. She ran a hand through her tangled hair, a gesture of sheer exasperation.

The very idea of the reunion, with its expected pleasantries and superficial conversations, filled her with a profound sense of weariness. She’d spent the last decade building a life, battling through a series of demanding jobs, and managing a constant state of overwhelm. The thought of pretending to be anything other than what she was – exhausted – felt like a cruel joke.

She considered ignoring it, but that felt like another obligation, another burden. The silence in the house felt suffocating. She grabbed a mug and poured herself some coffee, the dark liquid offering no solace. She wondered how she was going to get through the day, let alone the reunion.
